Introduction
This planned maintenance booklet is designed as a simple guide for officers, and ratings who are appointed to carry out maintenance and inspection on the ship’s safety equipment with the use of the ship planned maintenance system.
It is to be used in conjunction with the deck planned maintenance record book which indicates progress throughout the year of work and inspection schedules. In some cases, equipment detailed within these pages is provided in accordance with the design and trade of particular classes of ship. Where items listed are not part of the ship’s standard equipment, the pages concerned should be ignored.
This booklet is not designed to replace any manufacturer’s handbooks which must be referred to whenever necessary. Where instructions contained in this booklet are in conflict with manufacturer’s instructions, the latter should, in every case, take preference.
It is hoped that by following these basic routines of maintenance, life-saving and firefighting equipment will be operational at all times and that the work and cost of achieving this will be kept to a minimum.
